Welcome and congratulations on being brave enough to take this first step. If you’re here then it’s because you’re in pain and tired of dealing with it. You’ve gotten good at looking like you’re okay. People around you would say you have it all together and would never guess how much you struggle. You do well at supporting those you love and you’re always there for them. If you’re here it’s because you recognize that it’s time for someone to be there for you. Maybe you’re starting to see that you won’t be able to help anyone if you burn out. Maybe you’re starting to see that you deserve better. By reaching out for help you have actually taken a huge step towards healing. Our time together will be a space where you can slow down and breathe. When we’re in sessions you don’t have to have it all together and figured out. You don’t have to keep feeling this way. Let’s get started on your journey together.
I believe counseling should feel as organic and natural as possible. I like relational styles of therapy because as therapists, we’re inviting the people we serve to a place of safety and vulnerability. The first session can be a source of anxiety. Many people share that they’re anxious because they don’t know what to talk about. They worry about wasting their therapist’s time. The great thing about therapy is all roads lead to Rome. If you’re worried about having something to talk about, that’s actually a great thing for us to talk about. Let’s be curious together if there are other times when you feel responsible to make sure someone is entertained in their conversation with you. What if we learned that you are interesting so you don’t need to be interesting.
